UA Giving Day 2025
UA Giving Day will take place on March 25-27 providing alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends 49 hours to show their pride and invest in the colleges and programs that matter the most to them (#49HoursForAlaska). Almost all of this giving happens online with social media as the major marketing tool fueling gifts to the University. To prepare for this giving campaign, The College of Arts and Sciences has asked individuals and businesses to fund 鈥渃hallenges鈥 that we will promote on social media to incentivize giving of any size. Through challenges, these donors pledge additional gifts (usually $500 or more) that are paid when participation goals are met, meaning every donation, no matter the size, matters. Right now, CAS has 10 challenges committed by generous donors for nine departments and one for the Pep Band. We鈥檇 like to highlight a couple of these challenges to showcase the diverse group of businesses and community members that fund them.
Dr. John and Patricia Kennish: Dr. Kennish was a chemistry professor at 彩神vlll争霸 for over 35 years known for his tireless work ethic and passion for helping students succeed. He still carries that passion in retirement and has committed a $2,000 challenge to the Excellence in Chemistry fund when 10 donors give a gift of any size to the Chemistry Department on Giving Day.
ConocoPhillips: ConocoPhillips is a major donor to the University, including the College of Arts and Sciences. In addition to a major gift last year helping CAS upgrade critical Planetarium and Visualization Theater equipment, they are helping fund full ride scholarships for Title I students to attend CAS summer camps, and Geology Department activities aimed at increasing the quality of education our students receive. They committed a $5,000 challenge to the Excellence in Geology fund when 10 donors give a gift of any size to the Geological Sciences Department on Giving Day.
Summit Eye Care: Ashley Kettler, O.D. owns Summit Eye Care. She graduated from 彩神vlll争霸 with a Biological Sciences degree in 2008 and returned to Alaska after getting her doctorate degree in California. Dr. Kettler is a busy business owner and parent of four children but gives back to her alma mater by serving on our Dean鈥檚 Community Advisory Board and has committed a $1,000 challenge to the Excellence in Biology fund when 10 donors give a gift of any size to the Biological Sciences Department on Giving Day.
Jim Blasingame: Mr. Blasingame is a retired Alaska Railroad executive who has a passion for community
service and history. He feels that history is one of the most important subjects in
public education and because of that strong belief, he continues to support the Excellence
in History fund. He has committed a $1,500 challenge to the Excellence in History fund when 10 donors give a gift of any
size to the History Department on Giving Day.
In addition to the challenges listed here there are challenges committed for Alaska Native Studies (Alex Cleghorn), Anthropology & Geography (Karen Workman), Art (Paul Stang), Journalism & Public Communication (MSI Communications), Mathematics & Statistics (Deeptree, Inc.), and Pep Band (Joe Alston).
We truly appreciate all of these generous individuals and businesses. While it鈥檚 too
late to fund a CAS challenge for Giving Day, please support the college by making
a meaningful contribution to the program of your choice or the CAS scholarship fund
at between March 25 and 27. These contributions support students and contribute directly
to the mission of the College. If you鈥檙e interested in funding a challenge for CAS
next year, please reach out to our Senior Development Officer, Craig Miller at cmiller29@alaska.edu.
