CBPP Showcase 2024 Will Highlight AI in Business

Guests attending the 彩神vlll争霸 College of Business and Public Policy鈥檚 annual Showcase event on Friday, October 4, will learn how artificial intelligence (AI) is being used in everything from F-16 fighter jets to genomics, healthcare, infrastructure and employee training. Leading AI experts in industry, government and research have been invited to present practical examples of AI in business during 30 minute sessions.

The Showcase is a popular CBPP event that began in 2022. 鈥淲e developed the Showcase after the pandemic, to bring the community together in celebration of the truly amazing programs we offer,鈥 said Interim Dean Dr. Terry Nelson. 鈥淎 lot of people don鈥檛 know that we host an Artificial Intelligence Lab in Rasmuson Hall, or that many of our professors are incorporating AI into their courses.鈥

CBPP has established itself as a leader in AI business education, which motivated this year鈥檚 theme - Innovate Together: Unleashing potential with Artificial Intelligence.

The atmosphere at the CBPP Showcase is always fun, positive and exciting, as people mix and mingle while enjoying delicious food, beer and wine. There is also live music and a dedicated networking space.

About the Sessions at CBPP Showcase 2024:

Aurora, the AI Robotic Dog, presented by: State of Alaska Department of Transportation. Witness the groundbreaking capabilities of the Alaska Department of Transportation鈥檚 AI Dog 鈥 Aurora. It will be used to discourage birds and other wildlife from settling near plane infields by imitating predator-like movements.

AI Takes Flight as the Pilot of the F16 Fighter, presented by: Dr. Victoria Coleman, Former Chief Technology Officer, U.S. Air Force. Recently CEO of Acubed, and Head of Research & Technology in North America for Airbus. Discover how AI can revolutionize fighter jets with Dr. Victoria Coleman, as she describes the AI-controlled F-16 fighter jet and her pivotal role in its development.

AI in Genomics for Biosecurity, presented by: Dr. Bortz, Associate Professor, Biological Sciences, 彩神vlll争霸 College of Arts and Sciences. Join Dr. Bortz as he reveals how he uses AI in genomics for biosecurity to predict emerging pathogens as part of an 鈥淎laska Arctic Biosecurity,鈥 along with the design of molecules that are used in diagnostics and therapy for those pathogens.

Personalized AI at the Bedside Saving Lives, presented by: Dr. J Randall Moorman, MD, Bicentennial Professor of Advanced Medical Analytics, professor of Medicine, University of Virginia Medical Center. Dr. Moorman will discuss using AI for predictive monitoring for early diagnosis of potentially catastrophic illness, atrial fibrillation, arrhythmia, and other diseases, where early intervention saves lives.

AI with Business Applications, presented by: 彩神vlll争霸 MBA Students. Meet the future leaders from the AI with Business Applications class as they showcase their innovative projects: using digital twins for an LNG Sustainable Anchorage (Recipient of the Graduate Student Community Engagement Award ), AI shaping the battlefield, making AI accessible for small businesses, and advancements in healthcare administration.

AI and Digital Twins in Alaska, presented by: Mr. Clay Koplin, CEO of Cordova Electric Cooperative, Inc. Learn how AI and Digital Twins are modernizing Cordova鈥檚 electrical grid, increasing its resilience and resources.

Why AI Must Continue to Evolve, presented by: Dr. Masoumeh Heidari, Assistant Professor, 彩神vlll争霸 College of Engineering, Department of Computer Science & Engineering. Dr. Heidari will illustrate various applications that necessitated the development of tailored AI models. Examples such as using AI agents in IoT environments and leveraging predictive analytics in healthcare illustrate the need for models precisely designed for unique contexts.
